Charity Squash Event 29th July 2011

Friday 29th July was a day to remember here at BLT&SRC when squash royalty descended on the club. The day was a fund raising event in aid of a four year old girl from Watford. Luna Petagine suffers from an ependymoma brain tumour - a rare form of cancer for which she requires treatment in the USA.

The day started with a coaching session lead by Peter Nicol, the ex World No. 1, Paul Carter, ex National Coach and our very own Head Coach Adam Fuller. The 16 lucky participants had each donated £100 to the cause and benefitted from top tips throughout the day.

The afternoon session continued into the evening with a Q&A and masterclass from none other than current world no. 1, Nick Matthew, and British Champion and world no. 12, Daryl Selby. Approaching 70 people came along to the evening session, making a minimum donation of £25 per person.

Throughout the afternoon and evening there was an auction of items including signed rackets and kit bags as well as a VIP trip to  Health Spa. This added to the fund for the day - the total of which was in excess of £7,500!

Open Day, June 26th 2011

Thanks to everyone who came down to the Open Day on Sunday and especially to those that helped. The weather was especially kind to us this year and the sun brought many new members. The children had a ball with the mini tennis and squash, bouncy castle and face painting and the BBQ was a big success.

You will receive 10% off your membershp fees next April! And a big welcome to all our new members. We look forward to seeing you at the club over the coming months.

Berkhamsted wins ADTL Mixed Doubles Knock-out Tournament

The Aylesbury & District Tennis League held its annual Mixed Doubles Knockout tournament finals on the evening of Wednesday July 14th 2010.  This year it was held at Chesham 1879 and the finalists were Berkhamsted v Great Missenden in the Senior competition.  There was some great tennis from both sides but the Berkhamsted pairs of Tyrell Diaz-Stevens (who is the head coach of the Berkhamsted Elite Tennis Academy at the club) & Maddie Brooks and Alex Haddad & Anna Linton were victorious by 6 sets to 2, with Tyrell and Maddie remaining undefeated throughout the competition.

On the road to the final, Berkhamsted had defeated their great rivals, Halton, with a team of Tyrell & Maddie and 2 of the BETA juniors, Adam Coyne and Georgie Gosen. In a very close match, Berkhamsted won by just 5 sets to 3.

This is the first time Berkhamsted have won the tournament in its 38 year history!
