On Tuesday 23rd September (the squash section of Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club (BLT&SRC) were presented with not only the Herts Club Championship Trophy, but also the Wilkinson Sword of Honour as Herts Club of the Year. And, if that was not enough, 1st team Captain, Scott Rickard, was named Herts County Player of the Year.

You might think that they couldn't go any better. But you would be wrong. On Friday the club was awarded Silver Charter Status by England Squash, the first club in the region to achieve this honour. And, on Friday evening, the club hosted an exhibition match between their own professional, Adam Fuller, and ex World Champion Peter Nichol. To cap an extraordinary week, Berkhamsted then hosted the Herts County Junior Closed tournament over both Saturday and Sunday.

Club Captain, Keith Farnham, who was presented with the Wilkinson Sword, said, "I am delighted that the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of our team players, our committee and all our members has been rewarded in this way. I am very proud of them all, especially Richard Carr, for whom age seems to be no barrier."

Commenting on the week, Simon Andrews, Club Chairman, said "This has been a fantastic seven days for our club. We are now recognised as one of the leading squash clubs in the South East of England. We field first class teams, we have a fantastic club spirit and our coach, Pete Cheshire, is one of the best around. All in all this augurs very well for the next year as we look to develop our club and build upon the success that we have enjoyed".

BLT&SRC also hosted an Open Day last Sunday 28th September, allowing us to show off our tennis and squash facilities to potential members. There was a free bouncy castle as well as an excellent Barbecue, care of Chef Alex. The wonderful weather seemed an entirely appropriate end for a great week with over 30 new members joining on the day.  Open days are normally held at the club in May and September - watch the website for details.
