The club is very pleased to report that Martin Fifield is now stable at Harefield Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at the club last Friday evening.

He has posted a message on Facebook today which best sums up his condition and thoughts at this time and he is happy for the club to share his post with his fellow members of the club. His recent post on Facebook says,

"Well that was some Friday night. But I'm still here to tell the tale. A massive thank you to the squash club members who gave me CPR together with defibrillator hits, that the Doctors tell me saved my life. Massive respect to the wonderful NHS, from the ambulance staff, paramedics and doctors and nurses at Harefield hospital who operated on me. Now recovering with a chest that feels like its been hit by a ten ton truck, from the CPR.

From having the CA at around 5:55, I don't remember a thing, I was all fixed up and repaired with a stent for the offending artery by 10 PM. Who knew, that despite my well man checks that one could still have such issues? Apparently the CA could have occurred at any time during the last few days. I was extremely fortunate to have it happen at the squash club where immediate skilled help was available-Thank you all and I look forward to meeting you to give heart felt (pun intended) Thanks."

I'd like to re-iterate my thanks to those who stepped up to give CPR and use the defibrillator their swift action saved Martin's life. The decision taken by the club to purchase a defibrillator has saved two lives now, that said, we will not be complacent and we will be reviewing details of the incident to make sure that all of our processes are as good as they can possibly when responding to this type of emergency.

I'm sure that you will join me in wishing Martin all the best in his recovery and we look forward to seeing him back at the club very soon!

Mike Hawkes.
