Meet our Coaches

 

We run an extensive programme of coaching for all ages and abilities at the club. Head Coach, Chris Stringer, and his team provide one-to-one lessons and conduct a variety of group coaching sessions throughout the year.  They have priority on court 6 at all times. Meet our team:

Chris was born in Sheffield in 1963 and started playing tennis at age 11. He played numerous junior events and was a member of the Yorkshire Country Team. He played full time tennis for 3 years after leaving school, playing in tournaments in England, France and Spain. Chris has been Head Coach at BLTSRC since 1994 and enjoys everything about the club – playing for the teams, coaching and the general friendly atmosphere. Chris arranges all the tennis coaching courses including term time mini tennis, holiday courses through to performance squads.

Olly Culwick - Performance Coach

Olly joined Berkhamsted Tennis Club at the age of twelve. He has represented the club at all levels from junior through to men’s national league first team. Olly started coaching at the club in 1998 when he passed his DCA (Development Coach Award). Since then he has taught at all ages and levels from beginners to advanced. During that time he has also passed his CCAP (Club Coach Award Performance) and just recently passed his highest level qualification which is the Senior Performance Coach Award.

Olly is now the head of performance for mini tennis where he works with all of our most promising juniors at the club. He is currently working with players who represent their counties and with players who have been regionally and nationally identified in their age groups. Olly enjoys working with players of all ages and standards and feels honoured to work at one of the best tennis clubs around.

Tim Ineson

Tim has played racket sports extensively from a young age and represented his home county of Gloucestershire in both tennis and squash. He was selected for his university tennis squad as well as playing for a number of different club teams and now continues to love the game, both coaching and playing. Tim started coaching at BLT & SRC in early 2009 and has quickly built up a great reputation as a skilled, patient and encouraging coach.

Craig has been coaching at BLT&SRC since the spring of 2011.   Craig joined the club as a member in late 2009 playing matches for all  four summer club teams and in the club box leagues before deciding to take his  tennis to another level. Craig then joined up with the BETA Academy team to  improve all parts of his game, including travelling to Germany and being  taught by some world class coaches. Coaching was the next natural step and  working alongside the highly experienced team of coaches at BLT&SRC has  given him valuable knowledge which he now uses in every lesson, from Tots  Tennis to Adult individuals. Craig loves everything about tennis, from watching  to playing to coaching and to improving his own game. This level of commitment to the  game will drive him towards realising his potential as a coach and to  being a valued member of our coaching team.

Hugo Allen - Assistant Coach and Tournament Organiser

Hugo is a keen tennis player and represents the club at match level. He believes that all tennis should be fun and tries to bring this through in his coaching sessions and when running competitions. He is qualified through both the LTA & RPT and holds an LTA Coach’s licence. Last year he also had the chance to travel to Germany to work with developing players and top coaches – an experience which has given him many new coaching ideas. Carrying out video analysis and organising competitions has allowed Hugo to see the great opportunities for progression that exist within tennis. Qualifying as an ABTO Tournament Referee in 2009 has enabled Hugo to improve further the organisation of competitions that he runs. He was voted the LTA Young Volunteer of the Year in 2009 recognising his contribution to British Tennis.

Sara has played tennis since she was 4 years old. She has continually represented Bedfordshire county tennis from a young age and has a current LTA rating of 3.2.Sara was given a tennis scholarship to America in 2005 where she attended the university of Tennessee Martin for 4 years. Sara received several honours including freshman of the year in 2006 and athlete of the year in 2009.


Sara came to BLT & SRC in September 2011. She coaches all ages and abilities and is available throughout the week and all day Sundays.
